I'm always a sucker for a sob story and this is the tale of how I rescued a cat who had already been rescued once before.
A coworker of mine's mother died from emphysema. She had 4 cats, 2 of which were in their teens (cat years, not human) and 2 of which were 1 year old. The coworker and her brother decided to keep the two older cats, thinking they wouldn't be able to be adopted. They decided to put the younger two up for adoption as a pair because they loved each other so much.

I already had 2 cats that claimed allegiance to me, one of whom was dying, and my partner had 2 more cats. I was immediately hooked. How could I leave that grieving family with more cats than they could take care of? As it was, they already had cats of their. The softie in me sprang to action. Adopting 2 more cats was out of the question.
I've always been partial to boys, so I asked her if I could adopt the boy only, thinking that, as a new arrival with a lot of energy, he could give my cat permission to die. After much debate, my coworker and her brother agreed to separate the pair. Turns out that Zach had been on the streets and was slowly lured inside her mother's house and then became a part of her family.

Zach was very skittish (and still is, but nowhere near as much) but he immediately developed a wonderful relationship with his new brother, who is his age and also a rescue kitty.
Today, Zach is fairly well adjusted and an absolutely sweet cat who frequently helps me on the computer, especially if the diva of the house is already helping me (much to my dismay but I love them anyway).
