Scooby Doo is his name now. We met him in November of 2020 after one of my daughters saw a Facebook post saying someone needed to take this dog before two bullets were put in him. My other daughter went to pick him up and called me on the way. I told my husband, and he said to tell her we were on our way.

When we met her, Scooby was very skinny and smelled terrible. We learned he had spent the first year and a half of his life in a cage, eating and sleeping there. His tail had been cut off, and someone had tried to cut his ears off—one is still half cut. It was clear he hadn’t spent much time outside. When he first stood on grass, he didn’t know what to think.

At the time, we had three other dogs, who have since passed. Scooby turned out to be a very good boy. He likes to “talk back,” loves being outside, and in the summer will spend all day in our large fenced yard. He makes sure we know when it’s 10 p.m.—his treat time.

He now has two sisters we adopted from a family giving away puppies. The picture of him in the truck was taken the day we got him. The other shows him now—a very happy boy. His old name was Duke, but we felt a new life deserved a new name.
