It all started on a Sunday in 2009. I had just woken up and realized my sister wasn’t home, so I went to the living room and sat on the couch with my mom and her cat, whom I had rescued a year earlier. He was a fluffy young male cat. I was watching TV and petting him when my dog started barking after hearing people running up the steps. I didn’t think much of it because I had heard that before.

Suddenly, the front door burst open. It was my sister and her friend. My mom yelled, asking what was going on. My sister pulled out a tiny, sick orange kitten and begged my mom to let us keep him. My mom refused.

I was shocked by how small and fragile he looked. I stood up, gently took the kitten from my sister, smiled at my mom, and promised that I would take care of him. At first, she was upset that I insisted. But after a few hours, she finally said yes — as long as I named him.

The first name that came to mind was TiggyTig, and it stuck.

After a year of calling him that, he started to respond. He grew stronger and became my best friend. I’m so grateful I chose to pick him up that day. Saving him from the streets was the best decision I ever made.

Click to Help James

James and his blind brother, William, were found abandoned on the street when they were just four weeks old. James was born with one blind eye that started to cause him discomfort. Over time, that eye became increasingly painful and irritated. James is the seeing-eye cat for his brother, making his condition even more urgent to treat.
