This is Westley, the Dread Puppy Roberts!

I had just lost my very first dog, Bruno, and I was absolutely heartbroken. I was scrolling adoption sites every day just to distract myself, and one day I came upon Westley's photo (although he was called Brody then!) and he looked so much like Bruno that I knew I had to have him. I still believe to this day that Bruno sent him to me!

He traveled all the way to Washington State from Texas - on the day we met the van, Westley ran straight into my arms like he knew I was his mom now. He was skinny, itchy, and dirty, but I loved him right away. We took him to the pet store to pick out some toys, and then we brought him home.

We tried to crate train him at night, but he cried and cried and cried. I couldn't handle it anymore, so one night I let him on the bed and he has slept with us ever since without a problem. This poor baby just wanted to be loved, and even though he wasn't even a year old when we adopted him, we could tell he had been abused. My husband had to do a lot of work to make Westley not scared of him, and now they are best friends!

Westley has been through a leg surgery (we think from previous abuse) and heartworm since we got him. We also discovered he was allergic to bee stings the first summer when he went out and starting eating bees with his sister and came back with a swollen face! I basically had the vet on speed dial by then so he was fine, but needless to say, he does not like going to the vet and will dig his claws into me when they take him to the back for shots.

Westley is almost 5 years old now, and he is 110 pounds of absolute goofy happiness. He is my emotional support when I am feeling down, and he can stare into my soul with his beautiful amber eyes. He always has a toy in his mouth to greet us when we come home or while he walks around the house waiting for his dinner, and he will play ball with himself by throwing it in the air and catching it!

He's my heart dog in a way I've never experienced before and every gray hair he gets on his chin shatters me, but I try my best to live in the moment and give him the best life that I can. (I'm pretty sure he eats better than I do!)

We've been through a lot in four years, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
