The United Against Rabies Stakeholder Meeting took place in Bangkok, Thailand, this week which brought people from around the world together with one goal in mind - "to end human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030."

United Against Rabies states, "1 person dies from rabies every 9 minutes and almost half of them are children." With 99% of the causes caused by rabid dogs. But there is a solution - vaccines for dogs and vaccines for people who are bitten. 

Organizations, like Ukraine War Animals Relief Fund (UWARF) and GreaterGood, experts like one of the developers of the improved rabies vaccine released in 1983, and heroes on the ground, like Krystina with Under the Sun Shelter in Ukraine, came together to discuss how they are treating and preventing rabies in their communities. 

GreaterGood CEO, Tim Kunin, and our own hero, Krystina, talked about the dire situation in Ukraine since the war began which has left countless unvaccinated animals roaming the streets. 

Krystina and fellow rescuers risk their lives to help sterilize and vaccinate abandoned and stray animals. She was even bit by a rabid dog and had to undergo treatment, but continues to help animals in need. She is an expert with a blow dart that she uses to tranquilize dogs to safely transport and treat them. For these reasons and many more, she is a Vaccination Champion. She is one of three individuals nominated for this prestigious title and we need your vote to help her gain the recognition she so deserves.
