These critical supplies help give pets a second chance
Shelters across the country are on the brink. Severe natural disasters, high levels of post-Covid owner surrenders, and pet over-population have left shelters overflowing, putting pets' lives at risk. In the wake of the devastating fires in Los Angeles, shelters across Southern California are facing an even greater strain.
For these shelters, who are saving thousands of pets' lives each year, providing the basic essentials for rescue pets can be an overwhelming expense. Once the pets have been fed and the bills have been paid, there's often nothing left over for the "extras" some might consider an extravagance.
But these are NOT "extras". They've vital for the shelters' mission to save lives and they're vital for pets' well-being.
By gifting any of these items, you will help make a scary time in the shelter a little more comfortable. When a rescue pet is healthy and happy their personality shines and they are more likely to be adopted into their new home.
Supplies to send to shelter animals...
- Blankets are one of the most requested non-food items by shelters. Many pets love to "nest" in blankets which helps them feel safe and calm. Blankets can also be taken home when they are adopted, helping ease the transition to a new home.
- Stainless Steel Bowls are essential to give rescue pets a clean place to eat and can be reused by shelters.
- Collars & Leashes are more critical supplies that shelters need constantly. Help pets get walks and healthy exercise after being in shelter kennel.
-
Treats add a little something special to their day. Treats also aid in training, making each pet more attentive and adoptable.
- Toys provide mental stimulation, improving the shelter pets' moods, behavior, and confidence while reducing stress and anxiety. Like blankets, toys can also help smooth the transition to their furr-ever home.

Supply Bundle sends one of each of the above supplies to one lucky shelter pet!
Stories:
September 2024: The Animal Rescue Site and Greater Good Charities provided Naperville Area Humane Society with necessities for a variety of animals, which were then given to pet parents in need. That included a bunny owner who needed help feeding their furry friend. The shelter estimated the donations would help more than 100 beneficiaries.
NAHS said, “GGC included species specific supplies that met the need, which was incredibly helpful. We would not have normally kept items that were not dog or cat related at the shelter. Additionally, we were able to help our local wildlife centers with some of the other supplies provided."
August 2024: Animal Humane New Mexico had a hectic summer, taking in evacuated animals from fires in Ruidoso and floods in Las Vegas. Supplies sent by Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site helped support some of their temporary residents, including kittens Mitochondria and Stegosaurus, who were suffering from a variety of health issues and received some comfort during their care.
Animal Humane says, “While they were in treatment, members of our team were socializing them with squeezable cat treats generously donated by Greater Good Charities and the Animal Rescue Site!”
May 2024: Comfort and fun can make all the difference for shelter animals while they wait for forever homes. Houston Humane Society received scratchers, cardboard hideaways, and blankets to make the shelter more like a home for their cats while they stay there. The supplies helped ease some stress.
The rescue says, “Many of our cats have been enjoying their time relaxing in the hideaways. It’s given them a chance to decompress and greet visitors on their own terms, making them more comfortable in their rooms and confident in their interactions with guests.”
July 2023: Maria Vanegas, the Rehabilitation & Nursery Supervisor, of the South Florida Wildlife Center was so excited to receive blankets! "Our Center welcomed our first baby squirrel of the second peak in our nursery. Mammals, especially babies, should always be kept warm and comfortable. These blankets help us provide the necessary soft and warm substrate for our patients. When orphaned babies come into our center, they are very scared at first, as they are experiencing a completely different environment than they would in the wild with their parent. During the seasons, we typically have over 100 babies at any given time with us. With these blankets, we can now continue to provide all our orphaned/injured babies with a warm and comfortable environment."
February 2023: BoJangles was having some manner issues and was jumping in excitement on potential adopters. With the treats and toys sent, staff were able to train this large lovable mastiff to give him a better chance at being adopted.

Always want to help the animals in need. I wish I could afford to do more. Great organization. Great deals on merchandise, also.
I Love to be able to help animals in need. Every $ helps even a small amount. It all adds up. Thanks to the Animal Rescue Site for all it does.
I enjoy clicking on The Animal Rescue Site. You can click on a variety of icons, and it will tell you once you click, that you are sending/donating dog bowls, leashes, etc to a specific Rescue Organization and even to a specific pet whose name will show up. It tells you exactly how much items cost, then you just click to pay for it and The Animal Rescue Site sends the bowls, leashes, or other items you have picked to that specific Animal Rescue. This way I can choose a specific pet to send treats or a toy to and I know that specific pet will get the specific items I chose to buy to send to them. It is such an awesome way to be able to send needed items to Animal Rescues, and I can pick exactly the items that I want to send! Thank you Animal Rescue Site!
