Massive Wildfires Are Devastating Australia Right Now
Communities in Victoria and south-east Australia have been hit hard by destructive bushfires, leaving one person dead, more than 500 structures destroyed, and almost 1 million acres scorched—putting families, farms, and Australia’s unique wildlife at serious risk.
With 12 major blazes still burning and fire authorities warning that dangerous conditions could return later this month as heat and winds build, people and animals already displaced by the fires need urgent support for evacuation, emergency supplies, veterinary care, and recovery.
Recovery from these devastating fires will be long and extensive. Efforts at bringing the Australian bush back to life must include replanting trees and other flora, and working to restore the habitats of Australia's wildlife.
