Shelter life is hard on dogs with the unfamiliar smells, people, loud noises, and a lot of alone time. Staff and volunteers do their best to shower the animals with love and attention, but it doesn't compare to a loving home of their own.

Mack, a five-year-old pit bull, was surrendered to Humane Society of Broward County by his family when they moved away and couldn't take him with. Confused and heartbroken, he now spends his days waiting for someone to rescue him from this strange place.

The shelter posted his story on TikTok to help him find a new family. In the words of Mack, "Everyone is nice here, but I’ll be honest, the other barking dogs are loud and I’m having a hard time adjusting here. My name is Mack and I’m 5-years-old and 70 pounds. The volunteers take me for walks, and I definitely enjoy that! I’m potty-trained and will bark to let you know I have to go out."

@humanebroward Oh Mack ❤️ My family moved and could not take me along so now here I sit all alone. Everyone is nice here, but I’ll be honest, the other barking dogs are loud and I’m having a hard time adjusting here. My name is Mack and I’m 5-years-old and 70 pounds. The volunteers take me for walks, and I definitely enjoy that! I’m potty-trained and will bark to let you know I have to go out. Playing with toys is one of my favorite things, so I hope you’ll get me a good supply. While I’m good with kids, older ones might be best, I don’t want to accidently knock any little ones over. I know a few basic commands and need lots of exercise. If you have a dog at home, a meet and greet is recommended to make sure we like each other. Thanks to my friends at @dollys_dream_ , they have kindly paid my adoption fee ❤️ To meet me or any other pet, the first thing to do is fill out a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com and then stop by. The adoption kennels at the Humane Society of Broward County open daily at 11 a.m. The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312 and if you have any questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6. #rescuedog #shelterdog #adoptme #adoptdontshop #humanebroward #dogsofinstagram #fortlauderdale #dogoftheday #dogrescue #dog #dogs #dogshelter #adoption #pitties #pittiesofinstagram #puppy ♬ original sound - Humane Society Broward County

The energetic pup is looking for an active family with older kids as he might knock little ones over when he plays. He loves playing with toys and being around people. Mack deserves a second chance.

His adoption fee has been covered by Dolly's Dream and anyone interested in adding him to their family is asked to fill out the pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com. Then they can head to the shelter to meet the handsome fella.

Humane Society of Broward County is open daily at 11am for adoptions. Check out all of the adoptable pets here.
