Senior Shelter Dog Overlooked Due To Age And Size Just Wants Someone To Love

Meet Sigmund.

The 8-year-old German shepherd mix is a big fella weighing 115 pounds. He has been patiently waiting at the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for many months for someone to pick him.

Sadly, he is constantly overlooked due to his age and size. Sigmund has a huge heart and is ready to find a loving home to spend his golden years.

A heartbreaking note on his kennel explains how he ended up in the shelter. "I ended up getting lost. But my family never came to look for me. I've been here over 100 days looking for my new family to spend my golden years with."

Staff describe him as a "friendly, older gentleman that still has plenty of pep in his step." He does get excited for walks and pulls at first, but quickly settles down. He adores people and chew toys. His only requirement is that he is the only pet.

He does his best to control his excitement when meeting new people. "When he gets excited, he does his best to show you and does a little hop," shared the shelter.

Sigmund has so much love to give and hopes his new family will arrive soon. The shelter continues to feature this senior guy on social media and know his person is out there.

They wrote, "Sigmund is too big to be living in a kennel and deserves to live out his golden years in a calm and loving home. Do you have room in your life for this beautiful big boy?"

Sigmund would love a forever home, but he would even be happy to find a foster home or even go on a sleepover. He just wants to spend some time away from the shelter.

Anyone interested in meeting Sigmund can find out more about him here. J.R. Dunn Jewelers has generously sponsored his adoption fee. The shelter does out-of-state adoptions, so please share this with your friends and family to help him find a loving home.
