Family Surrenders 8-Year-Old Cat To Florida Shelter For New Kitten
Change is hard - for people and pets. Adding a new furry family member is an exciting time, but also requires time for existing pets to adjust to their new sibling. Some pets may act out if they are not getting the attention they were used to, and it is important to make sure each pet has their own space.
Sadly, an 8-year-old cat named Nala was not given the chance to adjust to the new kitten her family brought home. She went from the only feline to having to share, which she did not appreciate. She didn't want to share her litter box, so she found other places to go.
The people who were supposed to love her unconditionally surrendered her to Humane Society of Broward County and kept the new kitten.
The shelter posted the sad news on TikTok with a video of sweet Nala. They wrote, "8-year-old Nala is a cuddly and affectionate female cat that is vocal for food and loves getting treats. Sadly, she did not adjust well to a new kitten that was added to her home, so her family decided to give HER away 🥺💔".
@humanebroward Replaced by the new kitten 💔 8-year-old Nala is a cuddly and affectionate female cat that is vocal for food and loves getting treats. Sadly, she did not adjust well to a new kitten that was added to her home, so her family decided to give HER away 🥺💔 She is super friendly with people and likes laps and being pet. She will need a patient adopter, preferably with no other cats 🙏 #sadcat #cat #catsoftiktok #catvideo #adoptme #adopt #adoptacat #tigercat #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #florida #rescue ♬ original sound - Humane Society Broward County
Nala is obviously depressed even though staff are showering her with love and attention. Her life has been turned upside down, but she remains an affectionate cat who loves to cuddle. She is looking for a new family who will never abandon her and a home where she is the only cat. However, she does get along with "polite" dogs.
A heartbreaking note posted on her kennel reads, "I miss my family, my dog. My heart is broken."
Countless people took to the comments to share that they would never abandon a faithful friend like Nala. @p9stump17 said, "I’ll never understand how people can do this. If the kitten wasn’t a good fit, the kitten goes to a new home. Don’t give up a pet u had all their life."
@kiusoto wrote, "That’s terrible . It can take a while for cats to get use to new kittens brought into the home . That’s so sad".
Her adoption fee has been sponsored and she is hoping a loving family comes along soon to take her home. Anyone interested in adopting her can find out more here.
Share Nala's story and help her find a loving home.
