Survey Finds Americans Would Sacrifice Relationships, Internet, Junk Food And Much More For Their Pets

Is there anything you wouldn't give up for your dog or cat?

Apparently, Americans are willing to part with most things for their beloved pets.

Honest Paws, a pet CBD company, surveyed over 1,000 pet owners to see just how far they are willing to go for their pets.

It turns out people will sacrifice entertainment, money, and relationships for their furry companions.

Entertainment

96% said they would rather give up all junk food than their pet. While soda pop, candy, and chips are delicious, they don't compare to the joy our pets give us on a daily basis.

Dogs and cats are a constant source of entertainment and we can learn so much from them. They teach us how to live in the moment, so it should come as no surprise that 67% of people would give up internet access for a year than their pet.

When was the last time you watched your dog sleep or played a game of fetch? Most of us are obsessed with our smartphones and have a hard time putting them down. However, 70% of people surveyed would ditch their smartphone for a year for their pet.

One way to unwind after a long day is by pouring yourself a glass of wine and cuddling with Fluffy. But what if you had to choose between the two? 96% of people would rather give up alcohol than their pet.

Finances

Can you put a price on unconditional love? Most people don't think so.

  • 74% of people would actually feed their pets over themselves if they had no other choice.
  • 83% of Americans would take on a second job to afford their pet’s healthcare needs.
  • 42% of people would pay off their pet’s expenses before their own personal debt.
  • 86% of people would incur moving costs if they needed to relocate for their pet, and 56% would take on higher rental costs for a more pet-friendly home.
  • Relationships

We form strong bonds with our pets, so when a new partner or a family member doesn't get along with our dog or cat it may mean cutting ties.

56% of people would end a relationship with someone who did not like their pet.

But women take it a step further. 30% of women would even end a relationship with someone their pet didn’t like!

Americans are not only willing to sacrifice romantic relationships for their pets but will even distance themselves from family members.

25% of people would cut off a friend or family member who didn’t like their pet.

Besides, anyone who doesn't like dogs and cats must be crazy, right?
