Black Dog Named Sam Finally Adopted After 871 Days At Oklahoma Shelter

For 871 days, a large black dog named Sam stared at the same four walls at Bixby Animal Rescue Network waiting for someone to choose him.

All of his dog pals found homes, but no one came to meet him. People continued to pass him by, and he couldn't understand why.

The 4-year-old Labrador retriever mix is a perfect gentleman and goes potty outside and walks nice on a leash. He's always up for a game of fetch and is a big goofball.

Even though staff and volunteers showered him with love and affection, "Mr. Handsome" (as he was nicknamed by the staff) wished for a family of his own.

Numerous posts were made on the shelter's Facebook page showing Sam's silly personality, but for two years he didn't receive one application.

Recently, the sweet boy took over social media and made a heartbreaking plea, "I'm fully vetted but one thing stopping me I'm an unwanted or unseen black dog," he wrote. "Why can't I get my ever after 😢 where are my people there has to be someone for everyone. Why can't I get 1 single application?"

Sam was also featured on the local news in hopes of finding his special someone - and it worked!

The shelter shared the exciting news that Sam had finally found his forever home and wrote, "We just want the best for our boy and he's now got an amazing mom." The handsome fella is clearly happy in his new home and can't stop smiling.

Sadly, many black dogs and cats are overlooked at shelters. Please don't judge a pet by its fur color or breed. Instead, go to your local shelter with an open mind and see which personality matches the best with your family.
