Blind Rescue Horse Quickly Declining Gets Medical Care He Needs to Survive
Andrea Powell
A blind senior horse named Airforce was taken in by Gentle Spirit Horses in need of medical care and a safe place to call home.
The gelding is estimated to be in his twenties and has struggled to maintain his weight and health. Tests revealed he has Cushing's disease, which will require medication and special care to manage. He lost his vision due to complications from leptospirosis.

Another recent decline in healing from minor wounds and keeping weight on Airforce, common issues in horses with Cushing's disease, had caretakers worried.
The rescue shared with us, "Despite supportive care, his condition continued to raise concern, and euthanasia was being considered due to his overall lack of improvement."
Thanks to your donations, he is getting the vital daily medication Prascend, which was a key component in stabilizing his condition.

"Alongside dental work and adjustments to his feeding program, the medication helped regulate his underlying hormonal imbalance. As a result, Airforce began to regain weight and show measurable improvement in his overall condition. In addition to physical improvements, we also observed a noticeable reduction in his anxiety. As a blind horse, stress management is an important part of his quality of life, and improved metabolic stability appears to have contributed to a calmer, more settled demeanor."

He is now happily grazing alongside his horse friends who help him navigate the pasture. Thank you for giving him a second chance to thrive in his golden years. Your donations are changing lives.
