Tens of thousands of people braved the bitter cold and took to the streets of Minneapolis in protest last Friday to end the federal immigration enforcement operations in the state after another person was shot and killed by ICE agents.
According to TIME magazine, "An ICE officer shot 37-year-old mother of three Renee Good earlier in the month. A day after the mass demonstration, another Minneapolis resident, 37-year-old VA nurse Alex Pretti, was killed by federal agents."
Their deaths have left many heartbroken, outraged, and moved to act. Celebrities are coming forward to share their feelings and support, including "the Boss" Bruce Springsteen.
The renowned American singer and songwriter released a new song on January 28 and took to Instagram to share with his followers. He wrote, "I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free, Bruce Springsteen."
The song "Streets of Minneapolis" has gone viral on YouTube with over 2.8 million views in under 24 hours. It is also number one on the trending music chart. Listen to the song below.
Activists are now calling for a Nationwide Shutdown (no work, no school, and no shopping) on January 30, stating "enough is enough".
