Cats hate going to the vet and will do whatever they can to avoid it, even squeezing themselves into tight and dangerous places.

Overland Park Police and Fire Department in Kansas responded to a call on Saturday morning about a trapped cat in a recliner. Overland Park Police shared on Instagram, "This feline was caught in a mechanical reclining chair desperately trying to escape its owner for a vet visit."

Firefighters arrived and carefully used a saw to free the feline with help from Animal Control Officers.

Despite the cat's best efforts to avoid the vet, that is exactly where it went after being freed. The cat was unharmed and received its annual checkup.

Going to the vet is stressful for cats, but there are a few things you can do to help make it more comfortable.

  • Leave the carrier out and make it a safe space for them with their favorite blanket and tasty treats.
  • Lightly spray blanket with synthetic pheromones to help your cat relax.
  • Keep calm yourself and talk to your cat in a soothing voice.
