7 Ways To Celebrate National Rescue Dog Day
May 20th is National Rescue Dog Day and was founded by Tails That Teach in 2018 to honor the ways rescue dogs enhance our lives and to encourage people to adopt.
Millions of dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes are patiently waiting in shelters around the country for a loving home. As anyone who has rescued a dog or any pet will tell you, it is the best decision you will ever make.
Rescue dogs show us how to live life to the fullest each day by enjoying the little things. They also teach us to love unconditionally - even if you were treated bad in the past.
Celebrate the national holiday by giving your rescue dog a special treat and do one or several of the following to help other rescue dogs at your local rescue.
7 Ways to Celebrate National Rescue Dog Day
Field Trip
Shelter life is stressful and takes a toll on the dogs. Many shelters have programs that allow people to take a shelter dog on a field trip to the beach or park for the day. Shelters will provide everything you need and a list of dog-friendly places to go. Give shelter dogs a much-needed break and you may just fall in love.
Foster
Fostering saves lives and shelters are always looking for caring families that are willing to look after homeless pets until a loving family comes along.
Donate
Feeding and providing all the necessary medical care for shelter pets is expensive. Shelters have small and limited budgets and rely on donations to care and feed all the animals that come to them for help. Your donations can help saves lives and make a pet more comfortable while they wait for their person.
Spread Awareness
Rescue dogs are the best! Encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to adopt not shop. Share your story about your rescue dog with us here.
Volunteer
"We get by with a little help from our friends..." If you have some spare time, consider volunteering at your local shelter. Spend time cleaning kennels, helping feed, socializing with pets, and walking dogs. Sounds pretty nice, right?!
Click Daily To Help Shelter Pets
Click daily at The Animal Rescue Site to help feed shelter pets for FREE. When you click, our sponsors provide food and supplies for shelter pets. Don't forget to shop at The Animal Rescue Site Store where every purchase also feeds shelter pets. You get unique products and help shelter pets. Talk about a win-win!
Adopt
Head to your local shelter and find your new best friend. Whether you are an adventure seeker, runner, or couch potato, there is a perfect dog for you. Senior dogs are often overlooked for younger dogs, but the gray-muzzled dogs are often great with children, house-trained, and require less exercise than a puppy.
Every dog deserves a loving home. Adopt don't shop!
