Update: After months of testing, Fish and Chips were both diagnosed with congenital lymph-edema. The rescue shared, "This doesn't hurt them or hold them back from being completely normal, playful dogs! Fish and Chips have been with their amazing fosters for so long and are ready to find separate forever homes. Both of these pups are crate, potty, and leash trained and currently in a home with other dogs and cats (though sometimes they like to chase the kitties)."

A kindhearted individual found two sick puppies who were dumped at a gas station in New Mexico and stepped up to help.

Sadly, the area is home to countless stray dogs and unwanted litters are often abandoned.

Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab in Moab, Utah, took the puppies in and named them Fish and Chips. They arrived anemic, suffering from tick-borne diseases, and had swelling in their joints accompanied by a fever.

They were started on treatment for their illnesses, but the local vet could not figure out why their joints would swell along with a fever. After months of testing, the puppies were referred to a specialist in Colorado to diagnose this mystery illness.

The puppies were diagnosed with primary congenital lymphedema. This genetic condition can be managed with compression bandages, exercise, acupuncture, diet, and medication.

Fish and Chips need your help to get the care they need to heal and go on to find loving homes.

James and his blind brother, William, were found abandoned on the street when they were just four weeks old. James was born with one blind eye that started to cause him discomfort. Over time, that eye became increasingly painful and irritated. James is the seeing-eye cat for his brother, making his condition even more urgent to treat.
