Puppy Left To Fend For Himself After Owner Goes To Jail Found Trapped In Snare

Meet Leo.

The one-year-old black lab mix was left alone when his owner went to jail, and with no one to watch over him he got himself into a dangerous situation. A neighbor found the puppy trapped in a snare and rushed him to Pike Animal Welfare Shelter.

Leo's paw was swollen from a terrible infection due to the open wound. Even though he was in extreme pain, he never showed it. He is a happy and sweet fella who appreciates all the helping hands.

He was given fluids and pain medication to make him more comfortable until he can get the medical care he needs to heal.

The shelter convinced Leo's owner to surrender him, and they are now focusing on helping him make a full recovery. While it will be a long and costly road, they are not giving up. They reached out to Greater Good Charities' Emergency Animal Medical for assistance with his medical expenses.

The fund is able to help save the lives of animals in need of emergency care thanks to your ongoing support.

A foster home has already been found for Leo to recover in and now all he needs is the surgery. Veterinarian Dr. Luff believes that he stands a chance at saving the paw but if not, it will be amputated.

Either way, Leo will get the second chance he deserves to find a family who will love him unconditionally. The shelter team has already fallen in love with him and said he hasn't met a person or animal he doesn't like. He has so much love to give.

Pets receiving critical care facilitated by an Emergency Animal Medical grant may not be eligible for adoption until they have completed their course of treatment. If you would like to inquire about adoption of a specific animal, we strongly encourage you to visit the shelter specific website first as that is often the most up to date place to learn about available pets and review the adoption policies and process. See all the adoptable animals at Pike Animal Welfare Shelter on Petfinder by clicking here.

Help us meet our goal of $2,000 to feed and care for Leo. Your support will not only give this pup the hope to keep fighting, but your donations will help cover the surgery, ongoing care and food he will need.
