Shelter Puppy Only Able to Hop Around On Front Legs Needs Your Help To Walk Normal Again
Meet Moochy.
The six-month-old Labrador retriever mix was rescued from an overcrowded shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia by Hub City Humane Society in Mississippi.
The sweet puppy couldn't control his excitement upon being rescued and started to hop around on his front feet. He was unable to use his hind legs due to a prior traumatic injury.
The shelter shared, "Moochy, who is overflowing with energy and joy like 5 month old puppies should be, but fizzles out when he gets too excited from the pain of his left femur being snapped off at the head. He wants so badly to play like other pups his age, but running normally is impossible and rolling around hurts immensely, so all he is able to do is bunny hop from one place to another and sit in the corner watching those around him play, hoping one day it won't hurt so bad to be a puppy."
Based on the X-ray of his hind legs, he needs a femoral head ostectomy for the best chance at full mobility.
The surgery will be expensive, so the shelter reached out to Greater Good Charities' Emergency Animal Medical fund for assistance. The fund provides grants to animal shelters and rescues to save the lives of dogs like Moochy and give them the second chance they deserve.
After surgery, Moochy will need to be on crate rest for six weeks. Once he has fully recovered, he will be placed up for adoption. His caretakers are confident that he will quickly find a loving home.
Pets receiving critical care facilitated by an Emergency Animal Medical grant may not be eligible for adoption until they have completed their course of treatment. If you would like to inquire about adoption of a specific animal, we strongly encourage you to visit the shelter's specific website first as that is often the most up to date place to learn about available pets and review the adoption policies and process. Check out Hub City Humane Society's website to see all adoptable pets.
Help us meet our goal of $2,400 to heal Moochy's injury. Your support will not only give him the hope to keep fighting, but your donations will help cover the ongoing care he will need.
