Sick, Vulnerable, and Fighting to Heal - Two Wild Hedgehogs Need a Lifeline
Andrea Powell
Prohibicja and Duszka are wild hedgehogs that were found in horrible condition. They need emergency care to survive.
These spiky, nocturnal mammals do not have the best eyesight and rely on their sense of smell and hearing to detect insects underground and danger. These senses are vital to their survival.

Prohibicja was found struggling with a severe ear infection causing immense pain while Duszka was struggling to breathe and is in critical condition. Rescuers shared, "She was gasping for air, her eyes wide open in terror. She didn’t want to die - she was fighting."

Due to their 5,000 to 7,000 sharp keratin spines along their back, the medical team has to be extra cautious when handling them so they do not go into defensive mode by rolling into a tight ball.

Both hedgehogs require extensive diagnostics and specialized veterinary treatment to survive. A CT scan revealed that Prohibicja's infection has spread deep into her ear, requiring surgery to permanently open the ear canal and allow proper healing.

Duszka needs oxygen therapy, medication, and multiple procedures to remove mineral deposits from her nasal passages and restore her ability to breathe normally.

They have a long road to recovery and need your support. Donate today to give them a fighting chance at surviving and one day returning to the wild.
