Shelter Pets Rescued from Georgia Wildfires Get Second Chance
Andrea Powell
Thanks to your generous donations and the hard work of countless people, an Emergency Flight to Freedom evacuated over 50 shelter pets from shelters in Georgia impacted by massive wildfires.
The dogs and cats were already at Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia waiting for a home before the fires started and will now get the second chance they deserve in Tennessee and New Jersey. The open kennels will allow displaced and injured animals to have a safe place to rest until they are reunited with their families.
Volunteers with the Georgia shelter arrived at the airport before the sun rose to help load 60 dogs and cats onto the Flight to Freedom.
We thank you for your continued support and quick response to help us fund this life-saving flight.
As the wheels touched down, tails started to wag in excitement. The good boys and girls were greeted by smiling faces and transported to their new shelters to settle in.
Nashville Humane Association, one of the receiving shelters, shared that the dogs and cats are adjusting well to their new environment and are ready to find their forever homes.
St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center also opened their shelter to twelve shelter pets. They wrote, "They’ve left the smoke behind for a chance at a better future. Will you be the safe home these brave survivors have been waiting for?" Some have already found a loving home. Check out all their adoptable animals here.

Together, we helped save lives and assist people impacted by the devastating wildfires. Thank you for your ongoing support.

More Help is Needed
Animal shelters across the country are overcrowded, especially in southern states like Louisiana and Alabama. Highly-adoptable animals are at risk of euthanasia due to lack of space, resources, and adopters. Help save more animals by donating towards our next Flight to Freedom.
