Stressed Pets at New Orleans Shelter Take Comfort in Donated Toys & Treats
Shelter life is tough. Many dogs and cats arrive at the shelter afraid and stressed out by the unfamiliar sights and sounds. While shelters do their best to find them loving homes as soon as possible, many remain at the shelter for weeks and sometimes months.
Thanks to your generous donations, homeless dogs and cats at Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) received much-needed enrichment toys, treats, and supplies through Greater Good Charities' GOODS program.
Basic supplies like buckets and slip leads were immediately put to use as well as the enrichment toys for the dogs and cats. Each shelter pet was also spoiled with a tasty treat. The shelter told us, "The Hunter green buckets are being used every day by staff and volunteers cleaning cat kennels. We really needed new ones. We were in dire need of slip leads as we double leash all dogs going on their two walks a day, so they are being used. Toys for cats and dogs were used for enrichment. The cats and dogs made short order of the lickables."
Your support has improved the lives of shelter pets like Nigel and countless more. Read on to meet some of the shelter pets enjoying the donated items.
Nigel
This adorable Persian cat arrived in horrible condition after being rescued from a backyard breeder. He was nervous and unsure of people. Thanks to the donated treats, he calmed down and learned to trust humans again. Jenn Warner, the cat coordinator at the rescue, is seen holding Nigel and said, "Nigel was one of the many kitty recipients getting to play with the cat toys and enjoy lickables. The lickables certainly help kitties relax and warm up!"
Petunia and Chipper
These playful pups were found abandoned along with their mother in a yard with no food, water, or shelter. ARNO rescued them and they are now thriving thanks to the donated toys and goodies. "Here is Petunia the brindle baby and Chipper enjoying some playtime. They loved the toys and lickers." recalled the rescue.
Litter of Puppies
Six puppies were rescued thanks to the assistance from another local rescue called Zeus Place. The puppies arrived in need of medical care and lots of love. They are receiving both and will get to grow up to be big and strong dogs. "The toys and lickers were great for these little ones who really needed TLC," shared the rescue.
These are just a handful of pets impacted by your donation. The rescue estimates that nearly 100 pets were helped in one way or another. The staff and volunteers are so grateful for the supplies and said, "Thanks so much for this wonderful grant which truly enriched the lives of rescued cats and dogs in our no-kill shelter."
Thank you for joining us in our mission to help pets in need. Together, we are enhancing the lives of shelter pets and providing resources to animal shelters who work tirelessly each day to save lives.
