Overcrowded Indianapolis Animal Shelter Begs Community To Adopt, Foster, Or Volunteer

Indianapolis Animal Care Services is overwhelmed with homeless pets and lacks adopters, fosters, and volunteers. Dogs and cats are in every office and kennels line the hallways. To make matters worse, two of their washing machines broke down and laundry has piled up into their hallways and garage.

The dedicated staff is exhausted and desperately needs help to care for all the shelter dogs and cats. They took to TikTok to make an urgent plea for help from their community.

The video showed bins of dirty bowls that need washing and the dire situation at the shelter. They stated, "There is not a sustainable way to continue going the way that we are going."

Countless viewers were heartbroken by the shelter's situation. @jessicakiesling3 commented, "Boost. This is so sad. All these poor animals and the workers. I really hope you guys get help."

@perceptiveaquarius wrote, "My goodness!! What you’re doing is amazing. I hope you get flooded with help!"

Even though times are tough at the shelter, the staff shows up daily to shower the animals with love and affection. The animals are their number one priority, and they are rewarded with kisses and snuggles. Check out these amazing people in the video below.

Due to staffing shortages and being overcapacity with no open kennels, the shelter is only taking in animals in emergency situations. They desperately need help. See all the adoptable animals here.

Sadly, many animal shelters across the country are in a similar situation. They are seeing an influx in dogs and cats and fewer adopters and fosters. Highly adoptable animals are at-risk of euthanasia due to lack of space and adopters. That is why it is important that everyone helps their local shelter through donations, fostering, adopting, and volunteering.

Help save lives by giving back and share this story to help Indianapolis Animal Care Service get the help they need. Together we CAN change the world.
