Injured Dog Tossed in Dumpster in Tied Trash Bag Rescued Just in Time

Employees at Drug Emporium in Waco, Texas, noticed a man tossing a trash bag into their dumpster and felt something was wrong, and they were right.

They went out to the dumpster and opened the trash bag and were shocked to find an injured dog. The poor terrier mix was covered in wounds and clearly in pain.

Once they were able to get him out of the dumpster they called animal control for help. They thought the little dog had been shot and knew he needed help immediately.

Animal control rushed the dog to Bee Creek Veterinary where he was examined and given pain medication. X-rays revealed that he was not suffering from gunshot wounds but was attacked most likely by a large dog.

The Mama Nutmeg Foundation offered to care for him and named him "Benji" since no microchip was found. They shared, "It appears that, while he was attacked by another dog, none of his injuries appear to be permanent. Nothing is broken, and there are no spinal injuries. Benji is estimated 3 years old, is in good body condition, and flea free, though his mouth was full of mud."

He is still on pain medication as his wounds heal but is expected to make a full recovery thanks to the quick actions of all his rescuers.

The shelter is asking for help to find him a foster home to recover in, donations to help with his medical expenses, and a finally a forever home.

They also shared that security footage at the store is helping in the investigation that is ongoing for justice for Benji.

Be sure to follow the shelter on Facebook for updates on Benji and to learn how you can help.

How You Can Help Animals in Need

Sick and injured animals arrive daily at overcrowded and underfunded shelters and rescues across the country. They have a slim chance of survival without our support.

That is why Greater Good Charities created the Emergency Animal Medical fund to help dogs and cats get the emergency medical care they need and a second chance to find a loving home. Donate today to help animals in need.
