Animal shelters are full of loving pets looking for a forever home. The goal is always to find the perfect match for each pet and a Kansas City animal shelter may have found a great way to do that.

Wayside Waifs, Kansas City's largest no-kill animal shelter, posted a video on TikTok earlier this month featuring staff members giving recommendations for the purr-fect feline that fit a description picked out of a bowl. All types of personalities were displayed from "sweet and unpredictable" to "playful and high energy". Bonded pairs and cats that get along with other felines were also featured.

Over a million people viewed the video and it resulted in nearly ALL of the cats getting adopted.

The viral video worked so well for the homeless cats that the staff just posted one for the shelter dogs. Another bowl full of personality types and descriptions for dogs was created and the fun began for the pups. The shelter's Animal Marketing Coordinator, Teryn Jones, made her way around the shelter asking team members for their recommendations.

Several of the shelter dogs made their debut including Oliver with the "shortest legs". The basset hound mix has captured the hearts of several viewer who inquired about his breed and cannot get enough of his unique look.

One person commented, "Oliver with his pittie face and stubby wubby legs. They're all so cute!"

Several other dogs of different sizes and breeds were featured including "a big dog who thinks it is a lap dog" to the dog with "the prettiest eyes". One day after the video was posted on TikTok it went viral with over 17K views.

More importantly, the recommendations are working!

The shelter commented that the class clown, Kilo, and the dog with the squishiest face, Squish, are on "slumber pawties with potential families", and that Candy and Homer have been adopted.

This is a creative approach to connecting people with homeless pets and one that appears to be working. Another viewer said, "So cute. I feel like maybe this should be a weekly or monthly series! Show off all out cool cats and puppers!"
