Endangered Gray Wolf "Billie" is Fading Without Companionship — Help Change That

Wolves are social pack animals and need companions for their physical and emotional well-being, especially rescued wolves.

Wolf Haven International has been working to protect and preserve wolves since 1982. Their sanctuary in Tenino, Washington, is home to nearly 40 rescued wolves, wolfdogs, and coyotes who are unable to return to the wild.

The dedicated caretakers pair up the rescued animals of the same species to provide the vital companionship they need to survive and thrive. They also ensure the residents get individualized care, quality food, a variety of enrichment items, and progressive medical care.

Sadly, one of their wolf residents, Guy, passed away and left his companion named Billie alone and heartbroken. He passed away peacefully at 15 years old.

Billie is an endangered gray wolf and right now, she needs two things she doesn't have - a companion and the space to truly live.

She was rescued from the exotic pet trade in California in 2021. She is hard to miss with her unique smile with a lower right geminated tooth. The heartbroken wolf continues to look and howl for Guy. Wolves were never meant to roam alone. Billie needs another companion soon as well as more space to roam.

That is why with your support, Greater Good Charities is hard at work expanding her enclosure and others to help these rescued wolves get the space they need to roam and live their best lives.

Greater Good Charities' construction team will install over 600 linear feet of specialized 8-foot-tall wolf fencing enclosing approximately 0.60 acres of habitat. The fencing is engineered specifically for wolf containment, with three feet buried underground for dig prevention and a three-foot overhang to prevent climbing. The project ranks among the top ten largest fence installations in Greater Good Charities' history — and marks the first time the organization has built specifically for wolves.

James and his blind brother, William, were found abandoned on the street when they were just four weeks old. James was born with one blind eye that started to cause him discomfort. Over time, that eye became increasingly painful and irritated. James is the seeing-eye cat for his brother, making his condition even more urgent to treat.
