Neglected Horse Seized from "Unsafe Conditions" Finally Gets Care He Needs

For years, a senior horse named Winchester suffered in silence. Without proper vet care and nutrition, his health quickly started to decline.

The neglected horse was finally seized from "unsafe conditions" by Kentucky Humane Society and brought to their horse rescue, Willow Hope Farm.

He arrived malnourished and severely underweight, lethargic, and struggling with recurrent infections. However, there still was a spark of hope in his eyes.

Winchester was examined by a vet who diagnosed him with PPID, a condition that weakens the immune system and can lead to ongoing health issues if left untreated.

Thanks to your generous donations, this sweet fella was able to be started on medication immediately and slowly fed nutritious hay and grain. His caretakers shared, "Consistent daily dosing helped stabilize Winchester’s hormone levels, allowing the immune system to recover and the body to respond more effectively to supportive care. Over time, infections resolved more quickly, energy levels improved, and the horse began gaining weight and muscle."

Winchester will now get to live the rest of his days on green pastures, as all horses should. Thank you for helping rescued horses get the care they need to thrive.

More sick and neglected horses continue to arrive at shelters across the country. Donate now to help change even more lives.
