Golden Retriever Rescued From Douglas Harbour After Canine Sibling Alerts Passerby For Help

A golden retriever is being called "one very lucky dog" as he was rescued just in time after falling in the Douglas Harbour located on The Isle of Man. He has his canine sibling, a kind passerby, and local coastguard to thank.

It all started early on March 17 when a man was walking along the "tongue" in Douglas Harbour and spotted a Newfoundland dog barking. He approached the distressed dog who clearly wanted his attention and then noticed a dog struggling to stay afloat in the water.

He immediately called the Douglas Coastguard Rescue Team for help who received the call around 8:30 in the morning. The man couldn't just stand by and wait for help to arrive, so he got in a nearby boat headed out to the dog to try and keep him above water.

The golden retriever was exhausted and flowing down river when the man grabbed a hold of him, just in time as the dog was starting to go under. The rescue team arrived soon after to help rescue the dog from the water and reunite him with his canine pal.

The two dogs were brought back to the station where local police took over to help find their owner. The rescued dog was wrapped in warm blankets and eventually regained his strength. They were eventually reunited with their owner thanks to a post by Isle of Man Constabulary who jokingly called the dogs "reprobates".

It was not shared how the dogs ended up at the harbor, but they are finally safe at home.

It was a busy day for the coastguard, but this call was the most "notable". They shared the rescue story and photos on Facebook. They wrote, "We would like to thank the member of the public for his swift action which undoubtedly saved the life of one very lucky dog."

The anonymous man who stepped up to save the dog is our hero, as well as the coastguard team and the adorable Newfoundland. Fans also praised all involved for saving the dog's life. One person commented, "Well done to his mate the Newfie for sounding the alarm". Another added, "Crikey....that is like a film script! Talk about lucky....Well done everyone involved".

This is the second dog rescue for the coastguard in two days. On March 16, the team helped rescued a lost German shepherd named Diesel who was found on a cliff thanks to the assistance of a drone. Check out that rescue below.
