Oregon Police Rescue 15 Dogs Abandoned For Days In Back of U-Haul Truck

On Thanksgiving, Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle left in the Love’s Truck Stop in Klamath Falls. As troopers approached the U-Haul truck, they heard barking coming from the back.

The truck had been parked for two days in the parking lot before police were notified. It turns out the U-Haul truck was reported stolen. Troopers obtained a search warrant and opened the truck to find seven cages with fifteen dogs and puppies inside.

All of the dogs were alive but in poor condition. They were taken to Klamath County Animal Shelter for food and care while OSP went in search of the people responsible.

Local news station, KOIN 6, shared a photo from the inside of the truck on Facebook along with their coverage of the story.

Trooper located the suspects and found an additional ten dogs who were rescued and brought to the shelter for examination. In a press release, OSP shared that they arrested and charged the people responsible, "David Eugene McMillion (50) of Klamath Falls was arrested for Animal Abandonment, Criminal Mischief II, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Animal Neglect II. Lisa Annette Weeks (39) of Klamath Falls was charged with Animal Abandonment, Unauthorized Use of Vehicle, and Animal Neglect II."

One puppy tested positive for parvo but is being treated and quarantined. The dogs are all getting the care they need and once medically cleared will be put up for adoption.

They will all get a second chance at happiness and that is something they are thankful for. OSP also shared that the shelter has already received dozens of applications to adopt the sweet pups.

The puppies appear to be Rottweilers and a couple people suggested in the comments on Facebook that OSP should keep one as a trooper dog.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the dogs can visit the shelter's website.
