Overcrowded Animal Shelters Are in Dire Need of Pet Food
Andrea Powell
In shelters across the country are hungry dogs and cat staring at empty bowls. At overcrowded facilities where resources have been stretched so far past their limits it is a struggle to feed every animal every day.
That is where you can help.
National Feed A Rescue Pet Week arrives this year at one of the most critical moments shelters across the country have ever faced. Overcrowding has reached a breaking point - animals are pouring in faster than they are going out, resources are stretched to their absolute limits, and the basic need that never stops no matter how full the shelter gets is food.

The need is overwhelming. The dogs with their noses pressed against kennel doors and the cats curled in the back of their cages with rumbling tummies need your support.
The Animal Rescue Site along with our partner, Greater Good Charities, dedicates a week to raise as much funds as possible – with your support – to feed hungry dogs and cats in shelters around the country.
Help us fund 3 million bowls of nutritious food for shelter pets. Your donation will change the lives of homeless animals, like our spokes-pets Moss, Mathilda and Eleanor, Haven, Possum, and Meatball.
Moss

This tiny kitten took a nasty fall that resulted in a broken jaw. She needed emergency surgery and constant care while her jaw healed. The donated pet food allowed the rescue to not only feed Moss but also care for the nearly 100 other cats and kittens.

Moss made a full recovery and is grateful for your support. The rescue said, "Because of Greater Good and Purina's generosity, we were able to continue saying "yes" to cats in need without compromising the care of the nearly 100 cats already depending on us. We are incredibly grateful for this support, which has made a real difference for our rescue and the cats we serve."
Mathilda and Eleanor

Mathilda and Eleanor were found in a garbage bag in a ditch by a passerby who noticed it moving and saw two heads popping out of it. They were severely emaciated and barely able to stand.

The bonded dogs were started on a feeding program filled with nutritious food, donated thanks to your support, and started to slowly regain weight and their strength. After several months and lots of care, the dogs are back to a healthy weight and ready to find a loving home together.

Your donations made this amazing and life-saving transformation possible, so thank you.
Haven

Abandoned, starving, and barely hanging on is how Haven was found outside a FedEx facility. She was rushed to an animal clinic in critical condition. She survived and with a lot of intensive care and countless bowls of nutritious food is on the road to recovery.

She is getting a second chance thanks in part to your support. Her caretakers shared, "Haven is now a happy, active young dog who is ready to love and be loved."
Possum

Possum was found when she was just six weeks old extremely sick with severe diarrhea and an upper respiratory infection. She overcame her sickness thanks to her dedicated caretakers and your support. The donated food helped her grow big and strong and she is ready to find a family of her own.
In Possum's own words, "Thanks to your generosity, my rescue family can provide me with the nutrition I need to stay healthy and strong. Thank you for caring about animals like me and for making a difference in our lives."
Meatball

Meatball was found abandoned near train tracks malnourished, battling heartworms, fleas, and ticks. His emaciated body was covered in scars that told the story of his difficult past. Despite all his pain and suffering, Meatball loves being near people.
He devoured the donated pet food and is finally at a healthy weight. His strength has returned and he is learning how to play with toys for the first time in his life.

All these animals and countless more were saved thanks in part to donated pet food. In honor of the 10th anniversary of National Feed A Rescue Pet Week, we are hoping to provide 3 million meals to shelter pets.
Just $25 ships 500 meals—donate now to help.
