Piglet Who Fell Off Transport Truck Will Live The Rest Of Her Life At Sanctuary In Upstate, New York
A tiny piglet has avoided slaughter and will live out her life at an animal sanctuary in Upstate, New York. She has many people to thank for saving her life.
It all started when she fell out of the transport truck heading to a feedlot. She was rescued by good Samaritans and then transported to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, a permanent home for rescued farm animals, by Farm Sanctuary staff. She was named Silvia and her arrival at her forever home was captured on video and shared on TikTok.
Woodstock Sanctuary wrote, "She’s HERE! We asked you to help us rescue this tiny piglet and she finally arrived. Our friends at @farmsanctuary drove this baby here and we were just so excited to meet her after hearing about her brave escape."
@woodstocksanctuary She’s HERE! We asked you to help us rescue this tiny piglet and she finally arrived. Our friends at @farmsanctuary drove this baby here and we were just so excited to meet her after hearing about her brave escape. This piglet—who we’re calling Sylvia—likely fell from a transport truck taking her to a feedlot where she would have been raised to slaughter weight in a few months. Instead, she fell off the truck and was found by kind people who wanted the best for her. Sylvia is in safe hands now, and is just so friendly and curious about everything. Thank you to all who donated towards her rescue — pigs are not cheap to care for and this is only the beginning of little Sylvia’s life! Look forward to lots of the most adorable piglet videos you’ve ever seen in your life soon 👀 #whywoodstock ♬ Acoustic Folk Instrumental - Yunusta
Silvia is just a few weeks old and should still be with her mother. The sanctuary said she was likely headed to a feedlot where she would be "raised to slaughter weight in a few months" and then killed.
She is one of the lucky ones who will get to live her full life and be surrounded by people who will love her. "Sylvia is in safe hands now, and is just so friendly and curious about everything," the sanctuary shared.
The adorable piglet is already capturing the hearts of people across the country. The sanctuary continues to post updates in video form and said, "Thank you to all who donated towards her rescue — pigs are not cheap to care for and this is only the beginning of little Sylvia’s life! Look forward to lots of the most adorable piglet videos you’ve ever seen in your life."
Sylvia is such a character and apparently is not a fan of the rain. However, she loves to snuggle in a blanket and eat watermelon.
@woodstocksanctuary Replying to @Nick Yurkovich Sylvia was cleared to go out in the yard after her initial arrival quarantine but it was pouring!!! We gave her the choice anyway but she was not a fan of the rain. Also look at how her ears are starting to go UP #whywoodstock ♬ original sound - 🐮 Woodstock Sanctuary 🐮
Her life seems perfect, but it is about to get even better...
Woodstock Sanctuary was contacted about another piglet in need of rescuing who is about the same age as Sylvia, so they took her in too.
Meet Marge. She escaped from a pig farm and ran into the woods where kind people found her. She gets a second chance at life and will get to grow up with Sylvia. She is currently in quarantine and needs to be treated for parasites. Soon she will meet Sylvia.
@woodstocksanctuary The best news: Marge IS HOME! Now we have TWO baby piglets to care for! Donations are still matched through tonight, and we need all the help we can get to provide lifelong care for Sylvia and Marge. Please give now and help us make the most of this match! Marge made her way to us after escaping pig farming. She was found wandering in the heat. Marge needs to be treated for parasites, but she's in good spirits and VERY enthusiastic about meeting everyone here. When Marge is medically cleared, she will move in with Sylvia and these two babies who lost their families will have each other at last. We’re committed to caring for them for the rest of their lives. Sylvia and Marge will likely grow to be several hundred pounds each and live with us into their senior-hood. This is only the beginning. Every donation made toward their care will be MATCHED until tonight! Please help us welcome these two with a gift to support their care. Give here or on Venmo at Woodstock-Sanctuary. Welcome home Marge! #whywoodstock #piglets @🐮 Woodstock Sanctuary 🐮 ♬ Love - Revember
In the meantime, Sylvia is enjoying rooting around the yard. Check it out!
@woodstocksanctuary We are so thrilled that Marge is home now but of course that doesnt mean the daily Sylvia content stops 😆 She is growing STRONG neck muscles through rooting 😍 good job Syl #whywoodstock ♬ original sound - 🐮 Woodstock Sanctuary 🐮
