Rescued from Squalor: More Than 160 Pigs Get a Chance to Heal
Andrea Powell
We asked for your support to help save 163 pigs found living in deplorable conditions on a North Carolina property. The pigs were neglected, suffering, and in need of urgent medical care.
It took months for them to heal and learn to trust humans again. They were found suffering from severe starvation and dehydration, open wounds, heavy parasite loads, infections, and confinement in feces, urine, and mud.

Each pig was properly fed, treated, vaccinated, and cared for until a forever home was found. It took numerous people and organizations to save these precious pigs. A huge thanks to the devoted caretakers at Ziggy's Refuge Farm Sanctuary, Cotton Branch Farm Sanctuary, and Peace Ridge Sanctuary who are organizational parters of Blue Ridge Liberation, animal rescue and advocacy group formed to handle this severe hoarding case.
"For more than five months, we have been burning the candle at both ends fighting for these pigs, loving them, caring for them, and doing everything we possibly can to give them the lives they deserve," Ziggy's shared. "But this story is FAR from over. We desperately need adopters to step up NOW so these babies can be settled into warm, loving homes before the cold weather arrives."
Thank you for your generous donations which helped cover their care and gave them the second chance they deserve. Since they were rescued, 137,066 pounds of feed and counting have been fed to help them regain weight and strength.

One by one they found homes or sanctuaries across the country to live the life they deserve. Bonded pigs like Olive and Olivia were transported to their new home in Hickory, NC, thanks to countless people who stepped up to help.
At the time of writing, 38 pigs are patiently waiting for a loving home. The rescues are still looking for homes and help with transport. Find out more here.
Sadly, this won't be the last large-scale hoarding case, so Blue Ridge Liberation with their experienced animal rescue partners will work together to save as many animals as possible.
Sick and neglected animals continue to arrive at shelter and rescues nationwide. Most shelters are overcrowded, underfunded, and forced to make difficult decisions without support. You can help save lives by donating to the Emergency Animal Care Fund.
