A retired racehorse named Lucky to Be Here suffered from chronic pain for a long time before he was taken in by a rescue and given the medication and care he needed, thanks to your support.

The senior horse arrived at Virginia Thoroughbred Project suffering from significant complications from Cushing’s disease.

His caretakers shared, "Due to his compromised immune system, he would frequently develop sores and ulcers that were slow to heal, as well as recurrent bouts of cellulitis." 

Your donations helped cover the cost of his daily medication, Prascend, that he will need to be on for the rest of his life. He is already feeling much better and acting like himself again. 

The rescue told us, "Since beginning the medication, many of these symptoms have greatly improved or disappeared altogether. This treatment has made a tremendous difference in Lucky’s comfort and overall quality of life, allowing him to enjoy his senior years with fewer health complications." 

His days are now spent on green pastures with other horses where he can nap in the sun, graze, and play when he feels like it.
