Hundreds of Cats & Dogs Struggling to Survive Near Frontlines Receive Much-Needed Food
Andrea Powell
Some of the hardest hit areas in Ukraine are also where many abandoned and stray cats and dogs are struggling to survive.
With your continued support, organizations like United for Animals (UFA) can continue to deliver vital pet food to starving animals and local shelters.

UFA heads to areas that are still under constant bombing to ensure the innocent animals are getting the food and care they need. Read how your donations are making a difference.
Sumy Region
They told us that in the Sumy region attacks are occurring both day and night, claiming more lives as people do not have time to reach shelter.

People near the frontlines are evacuating and not all are able or willing to take their pets. The local shelters are seeing an increase in homeless animals and desperately need support.

" Our partner shelter in Sumy is receiving a growing number of animals. Some have been rescued from bombed villages, some are temporarily entrusted by families who fled and promised to return for them, and some are looking for new homes because their owners never will. This region is one of the most vulnerable in the country. That is why support here is so critical. Thanks to the help of our partners and donors, we are able to provide ongoing assistance to shelters in the Sumy region—food, medicine, and essential supplies. This aid truly saves lives," shared UFA.

Your donations also helped provide pet food to other devastated areas in eastern Ukraine.
Kirovohrad Region
Countless people have stayed in a dangerous area to help save and care for the hundreds of abandoned and stray animals roaming the streets and taking shelters in destroyed buildings.

Heroes like Mrs. Iryna - a woman battling a serious illness - who still gets up each day to feed, care, and love on the 40 cats and 90 dogs she cares for on her own.

UFA delivered pet food to volunteers, caretakers, and shelters feeding 976 cats and 856 dogs. The delivery not only filled bellies but warms hearts.

"A reminder to our rescuers that they are not alone. We sincerely thank everyone who made this possible. Huge gratitude to our trusted partners, Greater Good Charities, for their unwavering support and compassion. Your generosity brings hope and full bowls to hundreds of abandoned animals," wrote UFA.
Kramatorsk Region
Air raid sirens are part of daily life in this region and some people live with a packed suitcase ready to leave at any moment. However, they stay behind to help care for abandoned animals. They struggle to find enough food to feed the hundreds of homeless animals and that is where your support helps.

UFA continues to deliver donated pet food and told us, "Thanks to your support, we are able to regularly send pet food to our partners in Kramatorsk. This aid is more than humanitarian — it means survival. It means resilience. It means life, in a place where war still has no end in sight."
Cat Soldiers
Frightened cats who took shelter with the soldiers of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade “Kholodnyi Yar” are now a source of comfort and their companions. The felines welcome their heroes when they return from missions and curl up next to them to nap. Nutritious cat food was delivered to help feed these little warriors.

UFA states, "We recently delivered some pet food for their silent companions — the cats who now live side by side with the soldiers, share their shelters, warm their feet at night, and, in their own quiet way, stand guard too. Each of these cats has a story."

They went on to say, "Thanks to the support of United for Animals and Greater Good Charities, our defenders now have the means to care for their unexpected companions. And that matters — not only for the animals, but also for the soldiers. Because when there’s someone quietly sitting beside you, listening without words, just being — the weight on your heart becomes a little easier to bear."
