7 Workaholic Dog Breeds

Work Like A Dog Day is celebrated every year on August 5 to praise the people who go the extra mile. It was inspired by hardworking canines and service dogs.

Will all work and no play is not good for anyone (including dogs), we thought we would share some dog breeds who are overachievers and inspire people to do more.

Overtime...no problem for these athletic and energetic breeds.

Border Collie

Border collies are the definition of workaholics. They lock in on their task and have the energy and stamina to herd/work all day. After a long day at work, they love nothing more than cuddling up with their humans.

German Shepherd

These athletic and obedient dogs are found working alongside local police, on farms, and in loving homes as a faithful companion.

Siberian Husky

A perfect day for this active breed is to work, run, or play outside until the sun goes down. The friendly dog will then enjoy spending time with the family without being too clingy.

Golden Retriever

Bred as a hunting partner, these dogs are happy to work all day and will always greet you with a wagging tail. Their sweet and eager-to-please personalities make them perfect service dogs.

Australian Cattle Dog (Red or Blue Heeler)

The intelligent and muscular herders have an impressive work drive. They excel at rounding up livestock, being a running partner for their human, and dog sports. They are happiest when they have a job to do.

Jack Russell Terrier

The feisty terrier has endless energy and is always up for an adventure. The intelligent pup will remain by your side all through the workday but will try to take charge if given the opportunity.

Beagle

This vocal hound will inform you of an intruding squirrel, visitor, and when it is time to feed them. They enjoy scent work and once they pick up a scent will follow their nose anywhere.

Any of these dog breeds (and many more) could be named "Employee of the Month" with their impeccable work ethic and are an inspiration to us all. The common saying comes to mind, "Do what you love, and you won't work a day in your life."

Some dogs inspire their owners to enjoy the little things in life, like naps. Check out some lower energy dogs here.
