World's Oldest Dog, Bobi, Passes Away At The Age Of 31

Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, was named the world's oldest dog ever by Guinness World Records in February at the age of 30 years and 266 days old. He more than doubled the life expectancy of the breed living off of human food and living on a farm with his family in a remote village in Portugal.

A celebration was held on May 11 to celebrate his 31st birthday with over one hundred people including his family, friends, and fans. Countless people commented on how great Bobi looked, especially for his age, and how they wished to be so lucky and have their dog live to be over 30.

Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, was just a boy when Bobi was born on the family farm. They have grown up together and he calls him a "one of a kind" dog.

He became less mobile as he aged but still enjoyed time outdoors in his backyard hanging out with his feline friends.

The Costa family was thrilled to have so much time with their friendly and loving dog, but their time came to an end on October 21.

Bobi passed away at the age of 31 years and 163 days. The sad news was announced by his vet, Dr Karen Becker on Facebook. She wrote, "Is there ever enough time ? I think not. Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings".

A photo of Bobi and another of him and his dad accompanied the post which went on to say, "Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him. When we asked Leonel what his recipe was for Bobi’s exceptionally long life, his response was swift: 'Good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love. Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.'"
