Troy Animal Rescue Project (T.A.R.P.), a no-kill animal rescue in Troy, Alabama, was contacted about a suspected hoarding case that involved over 100 dogs. They have been rescuing dogs for the past two weeks and still have dozens to go.

The elderly owner was admitted to the hospital with stage four lung cancer when the rescue was called to help. At first, they were told around fifteen dogs were on the property, or that is what the woman's family and friends thought.

However, when rescuers arrived they found dogs all over the property, living in squalor inside the trailer, and mama dogs digging dens in the ground to have puppies.

It was a heartbreaking scene with dogs living in the walls, floorboards, and urine-soaked furniture. Trash and feces covered the floor with no food in sight. Many of the dogs are considered "feral", meaning that they have had little or no human contact and are leery of rescuers.

The rescue team suited up in hazmat suits and respirators to try and save as many animals as they could capture.

They left humane traps to try and capture more of the dogs as well as food and water. Over two weeks later, this rescue mission is still ongoing as the dogs run into the acres of woods around the trailer and hide from rescuers.

The team comes to the property daily to feed and provide fresh water and attempt to rescue more dogs. They have already saved 55 dogs, including several litters of puppies, and they even found some cats on the property.

All the animals need veterinary care. The rescue shared that they are trying to earn the trust of the remaining dogs, which they estimate to be around 50 more dogs, by feeding them inside the humane traps.

Just the other day, rescuers heard the whines of puppies and found a mama in a den with six puppies. One was deceased but the remaining five appear healthy. They are finally safe and with your support will get the care they need to grow big and strong.

This is a rescue marathon, and they need a lot of support to ensure all the animals get the food and care they need. They won't stop until they save all the dogs, no matter how long it takes.
