Le Refuge d'Aït - Bassou

Dear Pets Lovers, Welcome to the Refuge d'Ait Bassou. Living in a self-sufficient farm in the Moroccan desert, we discovered the extreme misery of animals in the region and established a Refuge. The first dogs came themselves, then people began to bring their puppies and kittens. Lumberjacks bring their old, exhausted donkeys here, instead of abandoning them in the desert. A local riding club brings us their old or handicapped horses. We have got about 30 dogs, 10 cats, 5 equines and 1 hedgehog; the exact number varies. We systematically neuter all our cats and dogs. Further, all our animals are vaccinated against rabies. In order to avoid the proliferation of street dogs, regularly murdered by the municipality, we also neuter all the domestic female dogs we come across and give advice on petcare to the mostly illiterate population. The well-being of our animals is more important than "saving as many as possible ", therefore we don't have cages but let them roam free on one hectar of land. Some problematic dogs are attached but get running time every day. The equines don't have boxes, but can walk wherever they like, day and night (a fence separates the Refuge from the orchard). We do not euthenise the animals, except in the case of intolerable, incurable suffering. Due to the free, outdoor life, we scarcely have any contagious diseases. We do not get any subsidies, but solely rely on private donations. We need your help to feed our pets and neuter more dogs in the region! Thank you in advance! You can also follow us on facebook and instagram to get latest news and stories from the refuge:Facebook- Association Nos Amis à 4 PattesInstagram - @gwenaelle_kobyliansky_
