Papayago Rescue House

Papayago Rescue House (PRH) is located in Marietta, Georgia. We are only one of two active parrot rescues in the state of Georgia. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Georgia Department of Agriculture inspected rescue, supporting the well-being of parrots through rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. We are equivalent to an Animal Shelter for dogs and cats and our rescue now supports over 140 parrots and we are close to capacity. We support the well-being and maintenance of parrots through rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. We help troubled birds and their families stay together, take in surrendered birds, offer adoption, fostering and education programs. In addition, we are a great place for boarding, and we also offer wing and beak trims and in-home consultations. Please make an appointment to visit, volunteer, or surrender and help support us! Website: https://papayagorescuehouse.orgA majority of Americans own pets, primarily dogs and cats, but parrots make-up the third-largest pet community. However, the public is still largely uneducated about the real challenges of keeping parrots in captivity. Many adolescent and adult parrots lose their homes when their "true colors" as wild animals start to shine. Hundreds of thousands of mass-marketed birds are now displaced each year because neither these birds nor their owners are properly prepared for success. A very sad fact is that 85% of parrots are resold, given away, or abandoned within 2 years of being purchased, and yet many parrots live 40 – 80 years. We work to increase knowledge of parrots within the state, provide mentoring and training to help cope with parrot ownership and strive to improve the care of parrots through education and services, in order to decrease parrot homelessness, abuse, or neglect.
