7th Annual Holiday Toy & Treat Event! Bring Joy To a Shelter Pet
Surrendered Dog Unable to Keep Food Down Receives Emergency Surgery
Andrea Powell
Update:
Bruzer received surgery and made a full recovery, thanks to your support. The shelter told us, "After his surgery, he came back to HSSW and we began a new feeding and healing regiment for him. This included eating his meals sitting up like a person - in our case, we sat with him on our laps or in a Bailey Chair. This also included keeping his activity level low, keeping him relaxed, and giving him his daily medications. Bruzer was a great patient and is doing SO well now!! So well in fact, that he has graduated from his Bailey Chair and now eats on all fours."

But that's not all. Bruzer has found a loving home and is living his best life.
Read Bruzer's full story below.
Meet Bruzer.
This young Shar-Pei first arrived at Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin as a result of a domestic violence situation. He was quickly adopted by another family but returned to the shelter just months later in need of emergency care.
Bruzer was refusing to eat and vomiting which signaled to his family that he needed care; however, they couldn't afford to provide it.

He was rushed to a vet who discovered that he was suffering from a sliding hiatal hernia which created a pocket in his diaphragm and allowed his liver to slip up into the pocket. The portion of his liver that slid into that pocket has become necrotic, putting him at risk of liver failure.
He needs your support to get the surgery he needs to remove the damaged tissue and repair the hernia.

Bruzer will need ongoing care after surgery including eating small meals in an upright position and antibiotics for several weeks.
Greater Good Charities' Emergency Animal Medical fund is helping with his medical care but needs your continued support. Together, we can save lives.
This sweet fella has had a rough start to life but deserves to find a forever home. See update above.
